Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team secured the first victory of the season and the first victory for Head Coach
Bill Dunn this afternoon at John A. Darcy Field, 8-5. Five members of the maroon and white registered multiple points in the effort. The Lions sit at 1-2 on the season.
How it Happened
- After 12 scoreless minutes, senior Brian Ford netted a feed from graduate student Nick Del Giorno on the man-up.
- The Lions promptly made it a two-goal lead with less than a minute left in the opening frame on an unassisted marker from sophomore Brendan McDonough.
- The Purple Knights scored to both close the first and open the second quarter with goals from Sebastian Simonson and Drew Collins, knotting the score.
- Molloy would find the back of the next three times to close the opening half with two goals from sophomore Mikey Rodin and one from junior Ryan Downing. Sophomore Chris Delaney picked up back-to-back assists.
- The maroon and white would score twice in the third quarter, an unassisted marker from Downing and a pass from Rodin to Ford on the man up, to make it 7-2. The Lions converted on three of the seven man-up opportunities of the afternoon.
- A goal from Max Katavolos set the score at 7-3 headed into the final 15 minutes.
- Delaney picked up his third assist of the afternoon after Del Giorno snuck one by the Purple Knights' goalie to give Molloy an 8-3 lead.
- St. Michael's would score twice in a span of one minute to come within three, but would run out of time.
Top Performances
- Delaney (three assists) and Rodin (two goals, one assist) led the offense with three points.
- Downing and Ford each tallied two goals while Del Giorno had one goal and one assist for two points.
- McDonough (one goal) and freshman Bryan Diliberto (one assist) each added points in the effort.
- Graduate student Sean Daly led with seven ground balls and added three face-off wins. Freshman Ryan Polehinke added four ground balls.
- Senior Jordan Arbouet and sophomore Liam Linden each forced two turnovers.
- Freshman Christian Michaels made 10 saves in net.
