Bridgeport, Conn. – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Bridgeport Purple Knights, 65-44, Wednesday evening at Hubbell Gym. The Lions, who have won seven games in a row, improved to 14-8 overall and 11-4 in ECC play, while the Purple Knights fell to 7-15 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
How it Happened
- Senior Gabriella Aspuru tallied a team-high six points in the opening frame, and the Lions led 14-12 after the first quarter.
- Down 20-18, Molloy end the second stanza on a 16-0 run, led by seven points from graduate student Safiyyah Lee and six points from sophomore Trinity Hudson, and had a 34-20 advantage at the break.
- Ahead 42-29, the maroon and white ended the quarter on a 12-2 rally, sparked by eight points from graduate student Maya Thomas, to increase its lead to 54-31 after 30 minutes of play.
- Lee put the Lions ahead 65-40 with 5:18 remaining en route to victory.
Top Performances
- Lee tallied a team-high 15 points.
- Hudson recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and her sixth of the season.
- Thomas scored 13 points and four steals, and Aspuru added 11 points five assists, and four blocks.
