Men's Lacrosse Rallies to Force OT, Falls Short Against St. Rose

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - After trailing 9-6 headed into the final quarter of play, the men's lacrosse team rallied on a last-second goal to force overtime against the College of Saint Rose. The men's lacrosse team ultimately fell, 12-11, in the extra frame, bringing the Lions to 0-2 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Molloy offense was quick to fire, with sophomore Chris Delaney netting the first goal of the contest four minutes into the first quarter.
  • Graduate student Nick Del Giorno fed freshman Bryan Diliberto to put the Lions up, 2-0.
  • The Golden Knights ended the opening frame with two goals in the span of two minutes to knot the score.
  • In a quiet second quarter of scoring, both Del Giorno and sophomore Brendan McDonough each notched unassisted markers to give Molloy a 4-2 lead.
  • Diliberto scored his second of the contest off a pass from graduate student Jack Egan.
  • Sophomore Mikey Rodin assisted freshman Ryan Polehinke later in the quarter to put the Lions in front, 6-3.
  • St. Rose would score the next six-straight goals through the final seven minutes of the third frame to lead 9-6 headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • The Molloy comeback would be fueled by two quick assists from McDonough on goals from Rodin and Delaney.
  • The contest was knotted 9-9 with Del Giorno setting up junior Ryan Downing on an extra man opportunity.
  • St. Rose would score with 9:27 on the scoreboard, but sophomore goalie Christian Michaels sent a pass to junior Scott Capicchioni at midfield. The attackman sent a shot past the St. Rose goalie to once again knot the score.
  • The visitors scored on the EMO with 5:15 on the scoreboard, and seemed to work the shot clock in their  favor in the resulting minutes to run the Lions out of time, but Delaney ripped a shot into the top right corner of the net as time expired to force overtime.
  • The Golden Knights won the opening draw and maintained possession for the next three minutes of action until they were able to sneak the ball past Michaels for the victory.
