Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Mercy Mavericks, 65-56, Saturday afternoon to win its sixth consecutive game at Victory Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 13-8 overall and 10-4 in ECC play, while Mercy fell to 10-12 overall and 8-6 in league play.
How it Happened
- The teams went back and forth in the first quarter. Down 17-16, sophomore Trinity Hudson scored five consecutive points, and Molloy led 21-17 after the first frame.
- Ahead 25-24, Molloy went on a 7-0 rally, sparked by five points from senior Gabriella Aspuru, to increase its advantage to 32-24.
- The maroon and white led 32-27 at the half.
- Graduate student Maya Thomas made a jumper to make it 48-36 with 3:06 left in the third frame.
- The away team led 48-40 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
- Ahead 56-52, Molloy outscored Mercy 9-4 to secure a 65-56 win.
Top Performances
- Aspuru netted a team-high 27 points.
- Hudson tallied 12 points and 17 rebounds, which tied a career-high, for her fifth double-double of the season.
- Graduate student Safiyyah Lee scored 12 points, and Thomas added eight points.
