Volleyball Sweeps Roberts Wesleyan in Regular Season Finale

Rochester, N.Y. - The volleyball team concluded the 2022 regular season this afternoon at Roberts Wesleyan University, sweeping the Redhawks 3-0. Molloy improved to 15-10 on the season and 6-4 in East Coast Conference play while Roberts Wesleyan fell to 4-19 (2-8 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The first set saw a fury of back-and-forth action that featured 13 tie scores. 
  • A error from the Redhawks combined with a kill from freshman Kaitlin Jordan gave Molloy the two final points needed to win the first set.
  • The second set began with an 8-2 run by the Lions including two kills and an ace from freshman Maya Akana and three from Jordan. 
  • Roberts Wesleyan would come within one, 9-8, before Molloy responded with a nine-point run to lead, 18-8. Freshman Canyen Rodriguez served up three aces.
  • The Lions would cruise to a 25-19 set victory.
  • The score was tied five times in the first 14 points before kills from Akana and junior Chye Davis as well as another ace from Rodriguez helped Molloy to an 11-7 lead.
  • The home team would come within one on multiple occasions, but the Lions maintained the advantage to take the victory.
Top Performances
  • Jordan and Akana each tallied 11 kills. Akana added 11 digs for a double-double to go with three aces.
  • Sophomore Alex Brown and freshman Aria Miller each recorded 16 digs.
  • Rodriguez had a career-high six aces to go with 30 assists.
  • Davis put up three blocks and eight kills.
Up Next
Molloy will compete in the upcoming East Coast Conference Tournament on Friday (Nov. 11) in Buffalo, N.Y. on the campus of Daemen University. The time and opponent are still to be determined.
