Rockville Centre, N.Y. – After holding the visiting team to 25 percent shooting in the second half, the Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Warriors of Alliance University, 53-46, in its home-opener Saturday afternoon inside Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improve to 1-4 on the season with the win, while the Warriors fall to 0-2.
How it Happened
- Four points in the first four minutes from freshman Casey Campo put the Lions ahead, 8-3, in the opening stanza.
- The road team finished the first quarter on a 16-3 run to take a 19-11 lead going into the second quarter.
- Sophomore Samantha Muller netted the first five points of the second stanza to close the deficit to seven, 22-15.
- Alliance opened its largest lead of the game, 30-18, with 2:53 remaining in the first half.
- The Lions closed the half on a 7-0 rally, highlighted by five points from freshman Rosa Rizzitelli. Molloy trailed, 30-25, at halftime.
- Back-to-back layups from junior Trinity Hudson shrunk the deficit to four, 33-29, 2:26 into the third quarter.
- Freshman Brianna James netted a layup with nine seconds remaining in the third quarter to bring Molloy within two, 38-36, heading into the fourth quarter.
- The cardinal and white opened the final stanza on a 10-1 rally, led by Hudson who totaled five points to take a 46-39 lead.
- The road team cut the deficit to one, 47-46, answering with an 8-1 run with 2:07 to play.
- Molloy would close the game scoring six unanswered points en route to the victory.
