Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Chargers of Dominican University, 70-64, Sunday afternoon inside the Hennessy Center. With the loss, Molloy fell to 0-4 on the season, while the Chargers improved to 3-2.
How it Happened
- Four points from sophomore Danielle Hippner and five from junior Trinity Hudson had Molloy behind, 14-9, at the end of the first quarter.
- The Lions opened the second stanza with an 11-6 run, sparked by four points from freshman Casey Campo, to knot the contest at 20 with 6:08 remaining in the first half.
- An 11-5 run from Molloy was capped with a three-point basket from Hudson to propel the Lions ahead, 31-25, with 75 seconds to play in the opening stanza.
- The Cardinal and White went into the locker room ahead, 35-32.
- Both teams traded baskets in the third quarter battling for control of the contest, but a jumper from sophomore Samantha Muller kept Molloy in front, 43-42, with under five minutes to play in the third quarter.
- With 1:14 remaining in the stanza, freshman Rosa Rizzitelli netted a three to knot the contest at 50 heading into the final quarter,
- A layup from Campo, and a pair of free throws from graduate student Gianni Domond pushed the Lions in front, 54-52, with 8:33 to play.
- The home team put together a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead, 61-54, with under seven minutes remaining.
- The Lions would close the gap to five, 61-56, but Dominican would not allow them to get any closer, securing the victory, 70-64.
Top Performances
- Hudson totaled a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.
- Campo tallied 12 points while shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
- Muller added eight points and seven rebounds.
