Philadelphia, Pa. - The women's basketball team concluded the opening weekend of the 2022-23 season with a loss to Chestnut Hill College, 70-43. Molloy sits at 0-2 while the Griffins improved to 2-0.
How it Happened
- Chestnut Hill led by five, 9-4, in the opening quarter. The Lions closed the final two minutes of the opening frame with three free-throws to close the gap to two, 9-7, at the end of 10 minutes.
- The first two bucks of the second quarter belong to the Griffins, but five-straight points from graduate student Gianni Domond brought Molloy within one, 13-12 with seven minutes left in the first half.
- Chestnut Hill went on a 13-7 run in the final five minutes of the half to lead 30-23 at the break.
- The Griffins opened the second half on an 11-1 run to take its largest lead of the contest, 41-24.
- Molloy would come within 13, 49-36, before the clock turned to the final 10 minutes.
- The Lions were limited to just seven points in the fourth quarter, giving Chestnut Hill the victory.
Top Performances
- Junior Trinity Hudson led the team with 13 points and seven rebounds.
- Domond also finished in double figures with 10 points.
- Sophomore Danielle Hippner had a career-high seven blocks to go with seven points and seven rebounds.
