Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Daemen, 4-0; Tappeto sets All-Time Assist Record

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Wildcats of Daemen University, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 9-3-2 overall and 5-1 in ECC play, while Daemen fell to 1-9-2 overall and 1-3 in league play. Junior Sarah Tappeto set the program record for assists in a career and a single season.
 
How it Happened
  • A pair of shots from senior Joanna Graca and junior Eleni Sofroniou were blocked in the opening 10 minutes.
  • Graca created a chance in the 27th minute but she put her shot high.
  • Junior Sienna Nicolich had her shot saved in the 32nd minute.
  • At the end of the first half, Daemen created a chance that was saved by junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian.
  • The game was scoreless going into halftime.
  • In the 54th minute Molloy cracked the scoreboard. Following a corner kick taken by Tappeto, sophomore Natalia Pirotrowski found the back of the net to give Molloy a 1-0 lead.
  • Over the next 20 minutes of action, Daemen and Molloy were locked in a defensive battle as the score remained 1-0.
  • In the 77th minute, Tappeto received the ball down the right flank and crossed it into the box and found Piotrowski who netted her second goal of the game to push Molloy ahead, 2-0.
  • Following a foul inside the 18-yard box in the 84th minute, graduate student Morgan Camarda buried a goal to increase the lead to 3-0.
  • Four minutes later, Molloy drew another foul in the box. Sophomore Alessandra Borsellino stepped to the penalty spot and scored to push the lead to 4-0.
  • Molloy would close out the game victorious, 4-0.
  • The team honored its seven seniors Natalie Peralta, Sienna Nicolich, Lindsey McCarthy, Eleni Sofroniou, Joanna Mauceri, Joanna Graca, and Sarah Tappeto in a pre-game ceremony.

  • Piotrowski netted a pair of goals.
  • Camarda and Borsellino scored penalty kick goals.
  • Tappeto handed out two assists.
  • Kilian made two saves.
 
Up Next
  • Molloy will travel to Rochester Saturday, October 15 to take on Roberts Wesleyan. Kick-off against the Redhawks is set for 1:00 p.m.
