Rochester, N.Y. – With crucial playoff seeding on the line, the Molloy women's soccer team collected its sixth conference win of the season defeated the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at The Soccer Stadium. The Lions improved to 10-3-2 overall and 6-1 in ECC play, while the Redhawks fell to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- The first shot of the contest came off the foot of senior Sienna Nicolich in the fifth minute. The attempt was saved by Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper Nicolette Knauf.
- In the 11th minute, the home team had its first chance, but the shot attempt went wide.
- 30 seconds later, junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian made a save on Roberts Wesleyan midfielder Kaeleigh Romero.
- Defense was the name of the game over the next 25 minutes of action as neither backline allowed a shot on goal.
- Sophomore Nicole Fabris created an opportunity that was saved.
- With 27 seconds remaining in the half, after winning a corner, junior Joanna Mauceri headed her shot into the back of the net from junior Sarah Tappeto to give Molloy a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
- Coming out of break, in the 53rd minute, Tappeto had an attempt saved to keep the game at 1-0.
- 45 seconds later the home team knotted the contest at one, following a goal from Ella White.
- Molloy looked to regain the lead in the 59th minute, but Fabris had her shot saved.
- Three minutes later, Fabris broke the tie netting a goal off a pass from Taeppto to push Molloy ahead, 2-1.
- The Lions backline would clamp down from there, as they did not allow another shot for the rest of the contest to lead Molloy to a 2-1 victory.
Top Performances
- Mauceri netted her first goal of the season.
- Fabris tallied her third goal of the campaign.
- Tappeto dished out two assists, to bring her season total to 17.
- Kilian was forced to make one save in goal.
