Lakewood, N.J. – The Molloy men's soccer team fell to the Lions of Georgian Court University, 2-1, Friday evening at Investors Savings Bank Field. Molloy concludes the regular season 8-4-6 with the loss, while Georgian Court improves to 5-10-3.
How it Happened
- Molloy's first chance of the afternoon came in the eighth minute, when sophomore Gio Fabiano had his shot saved by Georgian Court goalkeeper Sotirios Gkosdis.
- Over the next 13 minutes of play, neither team was able to generate a shot on goal.
- In the 22nd minute, Fabiano netted the games first goal off a double feed from junior Ryan Dobson and senior J.P. Rodriguez.
- The home team looked to tie it in the 24th minute, but graduate student Nick Conklu denied the opportunity to keep Molloy ahead, 1-0.
- Georgian Court had one more chance before halftime, but Conklu kept them off the scoreboard. Molloy led 1-0 going into halftime.
- Conklu began the second stanza with two more saves to keep Georgian Court scoreless through the first 15 minutes of the second half.
- Georgian Court broke through and knotted the game at one in the 61st minute, following a goal from Rhys Cotter.
- Fabiano responded with a chance to put Molloy ahead, but his shot was saved in the 68th minute.
- 10 minutes later, sophomore Connor Gervasi saw his shot denied, as the go-ahead goal was kept out of the net by the Georgian Court goalkeeper.
- In the 81st minute, the home team had its shot ring off the post to keep the game tied at one.
- Six minutes later, Rhys Cotter netted his second goal of the game to put Georgian Court ahead for good and secure the 2-1 victory.
