Amherst, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Daemen Wildcats, 61-58, Friday evening at Lumsden Gym. The Lions moved to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in ECC play, while the Wildcats improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.
How it Happened
- The Lions opened the contest on a 13-2 rally, sparked by five points from senior Gabriella Aspuru and graduate student Safiyyah Lee.
- The Lions led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter.
- Aspuru made a jumper to put Molloy ahead 21-10 with 4:59 with 4:59 in the second stanza.
- The maroon and white led 28-23 at the break.
- With the visitors ahead 47-37, Daemen closed the third frame on a 7-0 rally to cut Molloy's advantage to 47-44.
- The Wildcats netted the first 10 points of the fourth to take a 54-47 lead.
- The Lions cut the lead to two, 55-53, with 1:34 left on pair of foul shots from Aspuru.
- With the home team ahead 59-55, freshman Janel Moore hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 59-58 with three seconds remaining, but that was as close as the maroon and white would get.
