Tappeto's Game-Winner Leads Women's Soccer Past Bentley in Double Overtime

Waltham, Mass. – Sophomore Sarah Tappeto netted the game-winning goal in double overtime leading the Molloy women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Bentley Falcons in the season-opener Friday afternoon. The Lions improved to 1-0, while the Falcons fell to 0-1.
 
How it Happened
  • The Lions outshot the Falcons 6-5 in the first half. 
  • Senior Dana Poetzsch had shots stopped by Bentley goalkeeper Kat Hassapis in the 12th, 14th, and 45th minutes. 
  • Senior Jackie Carty goalkeeper made three saves in the first stanza. 
  • The match was scoreless after 45 minutes of play. 
  • Sophomore Eleni Sofroniou had a chance stopped in the 60th minute. 
  • The Falcons generated two chances in the 62nd and 64th minutes, but Carty was there to make the saves. 
  • The home team had an opportunity to take the lead, but Carty denied Ryenne Feeney in the 84th minute.
  • In the 88th minute, sophomore Erin Fogarty had a shot stopped.
  • Molloy outshot Bentley 8-4 in the second half, but the match was still scoreless at the end of 90 minutes of play.
  • The maroon and white generated a chance in the 92nd minute, Poetzsch had her try stopped.
  • In the 102nd minute, junior Lexi Verni had a shot saved.
  • Tappeto netted the game-winner in the 105th minute.
Top Performances
  • Tappeto netted her first goal of the season, and the third of her career.
  • Poetzsch tallied a match-high seven shots, and Verni recorded five shots.
  • Carty made seven saves for her first shutout of the season, and the 23rd of her career.
