Garden City, N.Y. - The volleyball team battled local Adelphi University this evening from the Center for Recreation and Sport, topping the Panthers, 3-2. Molloy improved to 4-6 on the campaign with the win while the loss set Adelphi at 9-3.

How it Happened
- The Panthers started the contest off strong with a 6-1 lead. Molloy would come within two, 9-7, but trailed from start to finish and managed just six kills in the set.
- After trailing 3-0 to start the second set, kills from freshman Alex Brown, graduate student Kassie Akouri Tejedor, and sophomore Chye Davis as well as an ace from graduate student Emily Meyer tied the contest 6-6 in the second set.
- The maroon and white took the next three points to take its first lead of the evening, 9-7, before the Panthers knotted the score at nine the next two points.
- The set would go on to be tied eight more times, including as late as 20-20 before Panther miscues and kills from junior Graciela Cruz allowed Molloy to knot the contest, 1-1, headed into the third set.
- Adelphi led open to close in the third set to take a 2-1 advantage.
- The Lions dropped ina streak of seven-straight points in the fourth set to lead, 10-5, before extending the lead to 13-6.
- The home team would come within three, 21-18, but late kills from Davis, Akouri Tejedor, and junior Kathleen Doherty sealed the set for Molloy and forced a deciding set.
- After the score was tied, 6-6, the tide turned in favor of the Lions, who took a crucial two-point advantage following kills from Cruz and Akouri Tejedor, 8-6.
- Adelphi would come within one, 10-9, but Molloy was able to maintain its lead and closed out the contest with back-to-back kills from Cruz.
Top Performances
- Cruz set a new career-high with 24 kills, attacking at a .328 clip, while adding five digs and two blocks.
- She was joined in double digits by Doherty, who racked up another double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs.
- Akouri Tejedor added 20 digs to go with 44 assists and six kills while senior Nicole Wagner dug 20 balls.
- Meyer (12) and Brown (11) also reached double digit digs while sophomore Colleen Moulder led the squad with three blocks.
