Uniondale, N.Y. – The second-seeded Molloy baseball team topped the top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 2-1, to win the 2021 East Coast Conference baseball championship at Mitchel Field. Sophomore
Charlie Cucchiara was named the series' Most Outstanding Player. It was the first conference title since the team won the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference crown in 2001.
How it Happened
- STAC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh.
- Molloy answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. Junior Patrick Hoffman hit an RBI double down the right field line, and sophomore David Franchi hit a ground-rule double to right to put the maroon and white ahead.
Top Performances
- Franchi tallied two hits and drove in one run.
- Hoffman recorded one hit and one RBI, and senior Matt Overton added one hit and one run scored.
- Cucchiara thew a complete game gave up one run, on seven hits, and struck out two to improve to 4-2 on the season.
