Uniondale, N.Y. – The second-seeded Molloy baseball team defeated the top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 4-3, in the first game of the East Coast Conference final Friday afternoon at Mitchel Field.

How it Happened

• Senior Jake McCarthy hit a solo home run to left field in the fourth to put Molloy ahead 1-0.
• In the sixth, McCarthy hit an RBI double, and senior Matt Overton hit an RBI triple to increase the Lions' advantage to 3-0.
• STAC knotted the score with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
• Redshirt junior Thomas Brady scored on a wild pitch to put the maroon and white up 4-3 in the top of the ninth.

Top Performances

• McCarthy tallied two hits, drove in two runs, and scored two runs.
• Overton recorded two hits and one RBI, and freshman Garrett Scavelli added two hits.
• Graduate student Timothy Panetta struck out 11 batters in 7.1 innings pitched.
• Verga fanned one batter in 0.2 innings to move to 3-2 on the year.
• Graduate student Joseph Murphy retired the side in order in the ninth to register his first save of the season.
