Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Weber Nets Five Goals; Women's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season With 17-10 Win At STAC.

Sparkill, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season this afternoon with a 17-10 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. The Lions improved to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in ECC play, while the Spartans dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. 

How It Happened: 
  • The Lions drew first blood, as sophomore Amanda Weber netted two goals, nine seconds apart to begin the contest. 
  • Graduate student Amanda Reyes found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1 with 24:05 remaining in the first half. 
  • The Spartans went on a 3-0 scoring run to take the lead, 4-3, halfway through the opening stanza. 
  • Sophomore Haille Ross ended the STAC run netting a goal to tie the game up at four. 
  • Junior Abbie Bellport scored on a man-up to push the Lions ahead 5-4. 
  • The two teams traded goals to end the first half, as junior Megan Schiaffo scored with seven seconds remaining to give the Lions a 7-6 edge at the break. 
  • Schiaffo picked up where she left off netting her second goal of the game 73 seconds into the second half. 
  • Junior Lucy Emptage scored shorthanded to extend the Lions' lead to 9-6. 
  • Over the next eight minutes of game time, the teams went back and forth scoring goals. The score was 11-9 Lions with 14:46 remaining.  
  • Freshman Hailey Dazzo began a 3-0 scoring run for the road team, as the Lions pushed the lead to 14-9. 
  • Ross, Schiaffo, and Weber closed the game with consecutive goals extending the lead to 17-10.
Top Performances: . 
  • Weber (five goals) and Ross (three goals and two assists) each had a game-high five points. 
  • Schiaffo (three goals) Bellport (two goals and one assist), and sophomore Nina Oddo (three assists) tallied three points. 
  • Freshman Jesscia Kofod picked up a career-high five ground balls. 
  • Freshman Mary-Kate Sweeney made nine saves in goal. 
Up Next:  
The Lions earned the third-seed in the ECC Championship. They will travel to play second-seeded Roberts Wesleyan Thursday, May 6.
