Softball Extends Win Streak to 10 with Two Wins Over D'Youville

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Molloy softball team extended its win streak to 10 games in a doubleheader sweep of D'Youville College this afternoon from Bob Klein Field. The Lions improved to 26-12 on the season and 14-6 in conference play headed into the final two doubleheaders of the regular season.

Game One: Molloy 8, D'Youville 5
  • The teams combined for just one hit through the first two and a half innings before the Molloy offense went to work in the bottom of the third. 
  • Freshman Chrissie Huhn walked before stealing second and advancing on a wild pitch. Sophomore Karsyn Eaton doubled to left field to score the first run of the contest.
  • Senior Courtney Greene plated Eaton in the next at bat with a single up the middle before back-to-back doubles from redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby and Katie Hand gave the Lions a 4-0 lead.
  • Eaton picked up her second hit of the contest with a two-run double in the fourth to increase the lead to 6-0. 
  • The Saints got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on a single through the right side.
  • Junior Marissa Nicoletti added a solo home run in the fifth inning to put the maroon and white in front 7-2.
  • Sophomore Emma Bachman reached on a bunt single before stealing second, advancing on a wild pitch, and scoring on a passed ball to score Molloy's eighth run.
  • D'Youville rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on a double down the left field line, to come within three, but Greene struck out the side to earn the victory.
  • The pitcher struck out a career-high 12 batters in the win, approving to 16-5 on the season.
  • Eaton topped the offense with three RBI, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Huhn grabbed three stolen bases in a multi-hit effort while Bachman had two stolen bases and two hits and junior Angelique Serrano added one stolen base.

Game Two: Molloy 6, D'Youville 4
  • The maroon and white's bat went right to work, with a lead-off single from Huhn, who advanced all the way to third on a fielding error. Eaton picked up her fourth RBI of the afternoon with a single through the left side before scoring on a double from Nicoletti
  • Huhn added a third run for the Lions with an RBI single in the second inning.
  • The Saints scored on a passed ball in the top of the third inning to come within two, 3-1, before cutting the lead in half in the fourth with a lead-off solo home run.
  • Bachman reached on a bunt single, but scored on a three-base throwing error to make it 4-2 in the fourth inning. 
  • Sophomore Steph Conrade singled, stole second, and advanced to third following a fly ball from Huhn before scoring on a single up the middle from Greene to increase the lead to three, 5-2. 
  • D'Youville threatened in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on two singles to come within one, 5-4. 
  • Molloy added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Greene before the senior sent the Saints down in order in the top of the seventh to earn her second save of the season.
  • Junior Amanda King improved to 6-5 with a win in 5.1 innings of work, striking out two. 
  • Greene led with two RBI while Huhn, Eaton, and Conrade each tallied two hits. 
  • Conrade added two stolen bases with Huhn and sophomore Grace Rende each picking up one.

Molloy concludes the home portion of the regular season tomorrow (May 2) at Bob Klein Field against Mercy College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. after a Senior Day ceremony honoring the careers of Megan McCormack, Tonianne Larson, and Mikaela Tribby.
