Lakewood, N.J. - The softball team split a double header at Georgian Court University, winning the first game 1-0 following a complete game shutout from senior Courtney Greene, before falling 5-0 in the second contest. The Lions now sit at 13-9 on the campaign.
Game One: Molloy 1, Georgian Court 0
- Both team's defenses put out a strong performance, allowing just eight combined hits and one error on the first at bat of the contest.
- After flying through three innings of play, Greene scored the contest's lone run with a solo shot over the right center field fence to start the fourth inning.
- Georgian Court would have a runner reach third in the bottom of the fifth, but Greene forced three ground outs to stay out of trouble and keep the Lions off the board.
- On the afternoon, the lefty pitcher faced just 23 batters in a complete game shutout, striking out six and allowing just three hits.
- Freshman Chrissie Huhn led with two hits for the maroon and white. Junior Amanda King and sophomore Steph Conrade also reached base via the hit for the visitors.
Game Two: Georgian Court 5, Molloy 0
- The home Lions struck first, scoring on a double to right center in the bottom of the first inning.
- GCU doubled its lead in the third inning on a single to left center field.
- Molloy's best chance came in the fifth inning, with a single from sophomore Akemi Poyer, sophomore Grace Rende being hit by a pitch, and sophomore Steph Conrade reaching on a fielding error to load the bases with no outs. The Lions next three batters, however, were sat down without Molloy plating a run.
- The home team loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth inning, plating three runs on a sacrifice fly, a fielder's choice, and a double, to round out the game's scoring and earning the 5-0 victory.
- Poyer and sophomore Karsyn Eaton accounted for four of Molloy's six hits.
- King tossed 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while sitting down five players via the strikeout.
