Orangeburg, N.Y. - The softball team started off a busy week of 12 games in seven days at Dominican College, splitting the doubleheader with an 8-3 victory and an 11-7 loss. The Lions now sit at 9-7 on the campaign while the Chargers are now an even 8-8.
Game One: Molloy 8, Dominican 3
- The Chargers took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, capitalizing on an error by the Lions' outfield.Â
- Sophomore Karsyn Eaton knotted the score in the second inning with a solo home run. A single from sophomore Akemi Poyer, a Charger's error, and a bunt single to the speedy sophomore Steph Conrade loaded the bases. Freshman Chrissie Huhn continued her hitting streak to six games with a single up the middle to put the Lions in front, 2-1.
- Domincan led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to once again tie the contest before adding an additional run with a double later in the inning.
- Four consecutive singles from Poyer, Rende, Conrade and senior Megan McCormack broke the tie in the fourth inning. Senior Marissa Nicoletti added two insurance runs with a single through the right side to set the score at 6-3.Â
- Molloy added two runs in the fifth inning with an RBI single to Rende and an RBI ground out from Conrade.Â
- Junior Amanda King held the Chargers to three hits through the final three innings to preserve the victory.Â
- Poyer led with three hits with Rende, Conrade, and Nicoletti each adding two. Nicoletti topped the team with two RBI while freshman Emma Bachman added one stolen base.
- King tossed a complete game, striking out six batters and allowing just two earned runs.Â
Game Two: Dominican 11, Molloy 7
- Dominican once again took the early lead on an RBI single in the first inning.Â
- The home team tacked on five runs on four hits in the second to take a 6-0 lead.
- Nicoletti put the maroon and white on the board in the third, plating Huhn, before scoring on a passed ball.
- An RBI single from Huhn and a throwing error by the Chargers brought the Lions within two, 6-4, in the fourth inning. A three-run home run from freshman Katie Hand gave the maroon and white its first lead of the contest, 7-6.
- Dominican recorded a two-run double in the home half of the inning to reclaim the lead, 8-7.
- The Chargers added three runs in the fifth inning on two singles and a double to round out the scoring.
- Hand, Rende, and Conrade all recorded multiple hits with Hand driving in three runs on the afternoon.
- Senior Tonianne Larson struck out one through 2.2 innings in the start while King went 3.1 innings in relief for the loss.
