Flushing, NY – The Molloy baseball team topped the Queens Knights, 10-8, Monday afternoon at Hennekens Stadium. The Lions improved to 9-5 overall and 6-0 in ECC play, while the Knights fell to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in league play.
How it Happened
- Senior Peter Theodorellis hit an RBI single, and senior Sean Hogan hit an RBI double to put Molloy ahead 2-0 in the first.
- Queens tallied a run in the second to cut the Lions' advantage to 2-1.
- In the third, senior Matt Overton grounded out, which scored junior Robby Keane, and redshirt senior Thomas Brady collected an RBI single to increase the maroon and white's lead to 4-1. Freshman Garrett Scavelli drove in two runs on an RBI double to right-center to make it 6-1.
- After the home team scored one run in the bottom of third, junior Patrick Hoffman walked with the bases full to extend the away team's advantage to 7-2.
- The Knights scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh to take an 8-7 lead.
- Overton hit an RBI single to knot the score at eight in the eighth. Later in the frame, Scavelli hit into a fielder's choice, which scored Overton and made it 9-8 Molloy.
- Senior James Messina blasted an inside-the-park home run to center field to bring the Lions' advantage to 10-8 in the ninth.
