Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team swept the D'Youville College Saints in a doubleheader to win its eighth-straight game, 12-5 and 9-4. Molloy improved to 24-12 on the campaign and 12-6 in East Coast Conference play.
Game One: Molloy 12, D'Youville 5
- Although the games were played in Rockville Centre, both contests counted as home games for the Saints, who took a 2-0 lead on two RBI singles.
- The Lions responded in the top of the third with a walk to sophomore Grace Rende, a bunt single from sophomore Emma Bachman and back-to-back RBI doubles from freshman Chrissie Huhn and sophomore Karsyn Eaton to take a 3-2 lead.Â
- Freshman Katie Hand continued the rally with a single before redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby doubled Molly's run total with a three-run home run over the left field fence.
- D'Youville came within three in the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch, befire a solo home run and RBI single in the fifth set the score at 6-5 in favor of Molloy.
- Sophomore Akemi Poyer led the sixth inning off with a single before being plated by a double from Rende. Bachman followed up with an RBI single up the middle to put the maroon and white in front, 8-5. Molloy added an extra run with a sacrifice fly from senior Courtney Greene.
- A two-run home run from Rende and an RBI double from Huhn rounded out the Lions' scoring at 12-5 in the seventh inning.
- Huhn, Tribby, and Rende each drove in three runs with Bachman going 3-for-3. Huhn, Eaton, Hand, Poyer, and Rende each put out a multi-hit effort as well.Â
- Greene struck out six in a complete game effort to improve to 15-5.
Game Two: Molloy 9, D'Youville 4
- The Molloy offensive momentum carried right over to the second game, taking a 2-0 lead after a solo home run from Eaton and an RBI single from junior Marissa Nicoletti.
- Eaton doubled the maroon and white's lead in her next at bat, sending a two-run home run over the left center field fence. The Lions made it 5-0 following an RBI double from Tribby.
- Poyer scored Molloy's sixth run in the third inning on a ground out from Huhn.
- The Saints got on the board in the home half of the inning after drawing a walk with the bases loaded.
- The score would stand through the fifth inning, where a single from Huhn and three-base error in Eaton's at bat scored two more run for Molloy to make it 8-1.
- D'Youville got back two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single before coming within four, 8-4, in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a fielder's choice.
- Eaton singled in sophomore Steph Conrade in the seventh to round out Molloy's offense before Greene retired three of D'Youville's final four batters to seal the contest.
- Eaton drove in a career-high four runs while Tribby went 4-for-5 at the plate. Eaton, Huhn, Greene, and Conrade each recorded two or more hits.Â
- Huhn (2), Conrade (2), and Poyer all picked up stolen bases.
- Junior Amanda King matched a season-high six strikeouts in the win to improve to 4-2 on the season.
