Greene Picks Up Two Wins in Softball Sweep of Wilmington

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team, on the back of two wins in the circle for senior Courtney Greene and home runs from Greene and sophomore Grace Rende, swept the Wildcats of Wilmington University, 4-2 and 5-3 to improve to 16-10 on the season.

Game One: Molloy 4, Wilmington 2
  • After two and a half scoreless innings, the Lions struck first as Greene set the score at 1-0, scoring Rende, who singled to lead off the inning before advancing on a sacrifice bunt from sophmore Emma Bachman and a single to freshman Chrissie Huhn.
  • After Molloy left two runners on base in both the fourth and fifth innings, Wilmington took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth, scoring on a fielder's choice and sacrifice fly.
  • The maroon and white trailed 2-1 headed into the bottom of the seventh. Bachman drew a lead off walk before sophomore Steph Conrade pinch ran for her.
  • Conrade advanced on a throwing error in the next at bat before scoring on a single from sophmore Karsyn Eaton to tie the contest, 2-2. Greene sent the ball flying over the fence in right center field to secure the win for Molloy, 4-2.
  • Greene led with three RBI, going 3-for-4 while also allowing just two runs on four hits to go with six strikeouts. Eaton tallied two hits for the Lions and drove in the other run.

Game Two: Molloy 5, Wilmington 3
  • Juniors Amanda King and Marissa Nicoletti led off the bottom of the third inning with single, both advancing into scoring position following a ground out to sophomore Akemi Poyer.
  • Rende just cleared the left field fence to give the maroon and white a 3-0 lead.
  • The Wildcats responded in the top of the third, scoring on a double and a single to come within one, 3-2.
  • Greene doubled in the bottom of the third before advancing to third on a single from freshman Katie Hand. When Conrade, running for Hand, stole second, Greene headed home, scoring on an error by the Wilmington catcher.
  • The Lions increased the lead to 5-2 later in the inning on an RBI single to left field by Nicoletti.
  • The Wildcats would come within two in the seventh inning on an RBI triple, but Molloy was able to hold on for the victory.
  • Greene, Nicoletti, and Rende each recorded two hits with Rende (3) and Nicoletti (1) picking up RBIs.
  • King struck out one through 2.1 innings in the no decision while Greene fanned four through 4.2 innings of work for her 10th win of the season.
