Women's Lacrosse Edged by Jefferson, 14-13

Rockville Centre, NY – The Molloy women's lacrosse team fell to the Jefferson Rams, 14-13, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to 2-4, while the Rams improved to 5-1.

How it Happened
  • The Lions took an early 3-0 advantage on goals from junior Abbie Bellport, freshman Hailey Dazzo, and sophomore Amanda Weber.
  • The Rams netted the next two goals to cut Molloy's lead to 3-2.
  • Graduate student Amanda Reyes and Dazzo tallied back-to-back goals to extend the maroon and white's lead to 5-2.
  • After Jefferson scored consecutive goals, the Lions ended the half on a 3-0 run, led by two goals from Reyes and one from sophomore Joanna Mauceri, and had an 8-4 lead at the half.
  • The road team netted the first three goals of the second half to make it an 8-7 game.
  • Dazzo and junior Lucy Emptage tallied Molloy's next two goals to bring the advantage to 10-8.
  • Ahead 10-9, freshman Erin Murphy and Bellport scored to make it 12-9.
  • The Rams went on a 4-0 run to take a 13-12 lead.
  • Weber tied the game at 13 with 58 seconds left.
  • Jefferson tallied the go-ahead goal with 18 seconds remaining en route to a 14-13 victory.
Top Performances
  • Weber (two goals and one assist), Reyes (three goals), and Dazzo (three goals) tallied three points apiece.
  • Schiaffo (two assists), Meyer (two assists), and Bellport (two goals) tallied two points each.
  • Sophomore Olivia Vail caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls, Meyer caused two turnovers and registered four ground balls, and senior Jillian Mayr recorded two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Freshman Mary-Kate Sweeney made nine saves.
