Men's Lacrosse Slips Against #4 Mercyhurst

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The men's lacrosse team fell to #4 Mercyhurst, 18-5 this afternoon. The Lions move to 1-1 this season while the Lakers improve to 1-0.

How it Happened

  • Molloy struck first just over a minute into the game when sophomore Sean Plasencia buried the ball into the back of the net.
  • After Mercyhurst tied the game at 1-1, Molloy scored back-to-back goals with freshman Jason Rebaudo and sophomore Brian Ford each slotting the ball into the top corners of the net for the 3-1 lead after the first quarter of play
  • The Lakers scored the first three goals of the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead, but during a man-up situation, Jack Egan put the ball beyond the stick of Mercyhurst's goalie to tie the game at four with seven minutes to go in the quarter.
  • Mercyhurst would take control back after that, scoring four goals during the rest of the second period and one more in the third to grow their lead to 9-4.
  • Freshman goalie Adam Hyman would be a brick wall in net during the third period only allowing one goal on eight shots from the Lakers.
  • Mercyhurst scored nine goals in the fourth to go in front, 18-4, but Egan added his second man-up goal in the final minute of action to round out the score.

Key Performers

  • Egan led the Lions with two goals while Ford and Rebaudo each tallied two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Plasencia added one point on his early unassisted goal, while graduate student Colin Kotarski added an assit on Egan's fourth quarter marker.

  • Hyman was a force in net for the Lions, making 17 saves in total and put up impressive first and third quarters, allowing just five goals in that period.
