Uniondale, NY- The Molloy baseball team defeated the College of Staten Island Dolphins, 27-6, Friday afternoon at Mitchel Field to open East Coast Conference play. The Lions improved to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in league play, while CSI fell to 0-1 overall and in conference play.
How it Happened
- Senior Peter Theodorellis started the scoring in the first with an RBI triple to left center. Senior Sean Hogan grounded out, which scored Theodorellis. Redshirt junior Thomas Brady hit an RBI single to left, and junior Chris Peralta grounded out to bring senior Matt Overton home to make it 4-0.
- Overton blasted a grand slam to center field to increase Molloy's advantage to 8-0 in the second.
- In the third, senior James Messina hit a sacrifice fly, which scored freshman Garrett Scavelli, and Theodorellis grounded out to score sophomore David Franchi to extend the lead to 10-0.
- The Lions scored seven runs in the fourth to take a 17-0 lead. Peralta hit an RBI single, Franchi hit an RBI double, Theodorellis collected a two-RBI single, and senior Jake McCarthy and Overton hit RBI singles. Peralta walked with the bases loaded for his second RBI of the frame.
- The home team plated eight runs in the sixth to make it 25-0. Peralta, Scavelli, Franchi, and freshman Gavin McAlonie all walked with the bases loaded. Junior Anthony E. Vano hit an RBI single, freshman Anthony Manisero hit a two-RBI double, and Vano scored on an error to conclude the rally.
- Junior Patrick Willix hit an RBI double, and Scavelli recorded an RBI single in the eighth to make it 27-4.
