Tribby Drives in Three in Softball's Slip at New Haven

West Haven, Conn. – The softball team dropped its first contests of the season this afternoon against the University of New Haven. Molloy fell to 8-2 with the losses while the pair of wins improved UNH to 5-1.

Game One: New Haven 2, Molloy 1
  • After three and a half scoreless innings, the Chargers were the first on the board. Three-straight singles gave the home team a 1-0 lead. A fielder's choice with runners on first and third doubled New Haven's lead.
  • The maroon and white responded in the top of the fourth. Junior Marissa Nicoletti reached on an error before stealing second. A single down the left field line from redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby brought Molloy within one.
  • The Lions allowed just one hit through the rest of the contest headed into the top of the seventh.
  • A single from junior Amanda King, a walk to senior Megan McCormack, and sophomore Karsyn Eaton being hit by a pitch loaded the bases with just one out for the visitors. The Lions were unable to plate the run, falling for the first time in the 2021 campaign.
  • Tribby drove in Molloy's lone run with King tallying two hits. Nicoletti and sophomore Emma Bachman each stole one base.
  • Senior Courtney Greene tossed a complete game, striking out six batters in her first loss of the season.

Game Two: New Haven 6, Molloy 4
  • Tribby led off Molloy's scoring with a two-run home run to left field, scoring Greene.
  • A lead-off double set the table for the Chargers to respond in the home half of the inning to cut the lead in half.
  • New Haven tied the contest at two in the third inning, once again scoring on a single after a lead-off double.
  • The home team broke the tie in the fourth inning with a single through the right side.
  • A walk to McCormack followed by a single from Eaton set sophomore Akemi Poyer up for an RBI double down the right field line to knot the score, 3-3.
  • New Haven doubled its run total in the home half of the inning on two RBI doubles.
  • Freshman Chrissie Huhn doubled to left center field in the top of the seventh in an attempt to start a rally for Molloy. The outfielder advanced to second on a groundout from Nicoletti before scoring on a groundout from Greene, cutting the Chargers' lead to 6-4, but that was as close as the Lions would get.
  • Tribby led with two RBI, going 2-for-4 from the plate. Eaton and Poyer each recorded two hits with Poyer adding a stolen base.
  • Larson went 2.1 innings in the start, striking out one. King came in for 3.2 innings of relief, fanning three batters in the loss.
