Greene Tosses Two Complete Games in Sweep of Adelphi to Keep Softball Streak Alive

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team improved to 8-0 on the season following a pair of wins over local rival Adelphi University this afternoon from Bob Klein Field. The Panthers fell to 5-3 with the loss.

Game One: Molloy 2, Adelphi 1
  • The Molloy bats went to work in the first inning of play. Junior Marissa Nicoletti was granted first base after being hit by a pitch, setting the stage for her to score following a single from senior Courtney Greene after a diving misplay from the Adelphi outfield.
  • Junior Amanda King plated Greene later in the inning to double the lead with a double to right center field.
  • The Panthers were sat down in order through the second, third and fourth innings.
  • A lead-off single in the fifth inning followed by a sacrifice bunt set Molly Edge up for an RBI single to put Adelphi on the board.
  • The teams combined for one hit through the final two and a half innings, a single to right center from King, to give Molloy the 2-1 victory.
  • King led with two hits with Greene, freshman Chrissie Huhn, and sophomore Steph Conrade also picking up hits in the contest.
  • Greene threw seven innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out two batters.
Game Two: Molloy 4, Adelphi 0
  • The maroon and white scored all four runs in the bottom of the first inning, batting through the complete lineup.
  • Huhn and Nicoletti led off with singles, putting runners on second and third for Greene, who drove in Huhn with a sacrifice fly to left field.
  • Redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby drove in Nicoletti with a single to the shortstop.
  • A single to King followed by a walk to senior Megan McCormack loaded the bases for sophomore Karsyn Eaton, who singled down the left field line to score both King and Tribby and give the Lions a four-run lead.
  • A strong performance in the circle from Greene kept the Panthers hitless through four innings until a lead-off double from Angela Lignelli broke the hitless streak for AU.
  • The visitors would record another hit in the top of the seventh, but were unable to get a runner past second base, securing Greene with her sixth win of the season and the senior's second shutout.
  • Eaton topped the team with two RBI. Six members of the Lions' squad recorded a hit in the contest.
