Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Dominican

Uniondale, NY – The Molloy baseball team lost both games to the Dominican Chargers Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions fell to 3-5, while the Chargers improved to 3-1.

Game One: Dominican 4, Molloy 3
  • The Chargers scored two runs in the second to jump ahead 2-0.
  • Dominican plated two runs in the eighth to take a 4-0 advantage.
  • In the eighth, Senior James Messina blasted an RBI double to left center, senior Sean Hogan, who tallied three hits, scored Messina on a  sacrifice fly, and senior Jake McCarthy brought in senior Peter Theodorellis on a ground out to cut the away team's lead to 4-3.
  • Graduate student Timothy Panetta struck out seven batters in 6.2 innings pitched, and sophomore Robert Lucano recorded four strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
Game Two: Dominican 3, Molloy 1
  • The Chargers tallied two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
  • McCarthy grounded out, which scored Theodorellis and make it 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Dominican added an insurance run in the seventh.
  • Junior Robert Iadanza collected two hits.
  • Sophomore Charlie Cucchiara struck out a career-high six batters in seven innings pitched.

The maroon and white travels to play Caldwell Wednesday, March 24. The game with the Cougars is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
