McCormack Walk-Off Secures Softball Sweep Over Pace

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team took a pair of one-run contests from the Setters of Pace University, improving to 6-0 on the season. Pace opened the season against the Lions, falling to 0-2.

Game One: Molloy 3, Pace 2
  • Three walks loaded the bases for freshman Chrissie Huhn, who drove in two runs with a single to left field. Junior Marissa Nicoletti plated a third run for the Lions the next at-bat with a single to center field to put Molloy in front, 3-0.
  • The Setters responded in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on a single from Zoie Iverson to come within one run.
  • Both teams would put runners in scoring position in the sixth inning, but neither were able to capitalize, giving Molloy the 3-2 victory.
  • Huhn led with two hits and two RBI while Nicoletti and redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby each also added hits for the Lions. 
  • Junior Angelique Serrano stole one base for the Lions, walking twice.
  • Senior Courtney Greene improved to 4-0 on the sason, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out nine batters.
Game Two: Molloy 5, Pace 4
  • After a scoreless first inning, Pace took a 2-0 lead following a double from Guarracino. 
  • Tribby cut the Setters' lead in half with a solo home run in the bottom of the second.
  • The score would remain 2-1 until Walkingstick drove in two runs in the fifth with a single to center field to give the visitors a 4-1 lead.
  • Tribby drove in her second run of the contest in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly. 
  • The Lions trailed 4-2 headed into the home half of the seventh inning. A leadoff double from Huhn set the stage for an RBI single from Greene to bring Molloy within one with two outs remaining.
  • A passed ball put Greene in scoring position, scoring on a double from Tribby to knot the score. 
  • Tribby moved to third following a wild pitch, scoring on a walk-off single from senior Megan McCormack to give the Lions the comeback victory. 
  • Tribby drove in three runs on two hits while McCormack led with three hits. 
  • Senior Tonianne Larson fanned four batters and allowed just one earned run, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Up Next
Molloy's previously scheduled game at Georgian Court on Sunday (Mar. 21) has been rescheduled for Apr. 1. The Lions will return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 23) against Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m.
