Panetta's Strong Outing Leads to Game One Win; Baseball Splits with Dominican

Uniondale, NY – The Molloy baseball team split a doubleheader with the Dominican Chargers Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions won the first game 9-3 and fell in game two 14-2. The Lions improved to 2-3, while the Chargers moved to 1-1.

Game One: Molloy 9, Dominican 3
  • The Chargers plated a run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the frame, senior James Messina hit an RBI single to knot the score.
  • Senior Matt Overton grounded out, which scored senior Sean Hogan. Later in the inning, redshirt junior Thomas Brady scored on a throwing error to put Molloy ahead 3-1 in the fourth.
  • The Lions extended their lead to 5-1 in the sixth on a two-RBI single from junior Chris Peralta.
  • The home team scored three runs in the seventh to increase its advantage to 8-1. Hogan hit a sac fly to score Messina, senior Jake McCarthy grounded out to score senior Peter Theodorellis, and Brady hit an RBI single to right.
  • Hogan, who tallied two hits and two RBIs, recorded an RBI single in the eighth to make it 9-1.
  • The road team registered two runs in the ninth.
  • Redshirt senior Timothy Panetta threw seven innings and gave up one run on five hits, and struck out eight to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Game Two: Dominican 14, Molloy 2
  • The Chargers jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first.
  • In the bottom of the first, Theodorellis and McCarthy hit RBI singles to even the score, 2-2.
  • Dominican scored five runs in the second, one in the fourth, four in the fifth, and two in the seventh en route to a 14-2 win.

The Lions travel to play Adelphi Tuesday, April 16. The game with the Panthers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
