Four Home Runs Lead Softball to Doubleheader Sweep of Dominican

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team opened up the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Dominican College, improving to 4-0 on the season. The Chargers dropped to 0-4 with the losses.

Game One: Molloy 6, Dominican 0
  • Junior Marissa Nicoletti led off the Molloy offense with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.
  • After a scoreless second inning, the maroon and white doubled its lead. Freshman Chrissie Huhn led off with a walk before eventually being driven in by a single from junior Amanda King.
  • King added another RBI in the fifth inning, trading places with senior Courtney Greene following a double to center field.
  • The Lions plated three runs in the sixth inning on a double from sophomore Emma Bachman and back-to-back singles from Huhn and Nicoletti. 
  • Nicoletti, King, and sophomore Akemi Poyer each tallied two hits for the Lions. Poyer and Huhn each stole a base with Greene, King, Poyer, Bachman, and senior Megan McCormack all hitting doubles.
  • Greene tossed a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits while striking out six batters.

Game Two: Molloy 11, Dominican 4
  • Dominican plated the game's first run with a bunt RBI single in the first inning.
  • The Lions responded in the bottom of the second as redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby hit a two-run home run while Huhn drove in one run with a double to make it 3-1 in favor of the home team.
  • The Chargers took a 4-3 lead in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly and two singles. 
  • Greene knotted the score in the home half of the third inning with a leadoff home run.
  • Molloy plated three runs in the fourth inning on a double from Nicoletti and a two-run error from the Chargers. 
  • Nicoletti continued her hot day at the plate with a triple in the fifth to put the Lions in front, 9-4.
  • Junior Angelique Serrano rounded out the Lions' scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. 
  • Nicoletti drove in three runs on a 2-for-4 afternoon. Huhn, Tribby, and Serrano each recorded two hits with Serrano adding a stolen base.
  • Senior Tonianne Larson tossed three innings and struck out three batters. Greene tossed four innings in her second win of the day.
