Lyndhurst, N.J. - After 367 days, the softball team returned to action with a doubleheader against Felician University. The Lions topped the Golden Falcons in both contests, 6-2 and 13-5 (five innings) to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Game One: Molloy 6, Felician 2
- A walk to sophomore Karsyn Eaton set the table for senior Courtney Greene to start her campaign with a home run to right center field, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
- Felician would cut the deficit in half in the home half of the inning with a leadoff home run.
- The hot bats continued in the top of the second with a leadoff home run from junior Marissa Nicoletti. With runners on second and third, freshman Chrissie Huhn singled to right field to increase Molloy's lead to 4-1.
- A solo home run brought the home team to within two, 4-2, after three innings of play.
- The maroon and white added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings on a single from Nicoletti and a triple from Eaton to round out the score.
- Nicoletti and Greene each led the Lions with two RBI and two hits. In total, nine members of the Lions recorded a hit in the contest.
- Greene tossed a complete game, fanning four batters.
Game Two: Molloy 13, Felician 5 (Five Innings)
- Molloy's offense continued into the second contest, playing at least one run in each of the five innings before taking the contest via the mercy rule.
- The Lions scored three runs in the first inning, capitalizing on errors from the Golden Falcons' defense as well as a sacrifice fly from junior Amanda King.
- The home team tied the contest in the home half of the inning on five-straight singles.
- Sophomore Emma Bachman led off the second inning with a single and was plated by Greene on a ground-rule double.
- The maroon and white plated three runs in the third on RBI singles from Bachman, Huhn, and sophomore Steph Conrade.
- After Felician cut the lead to three, 7-4, in the home half of the third, Molloy responded with two runs in the fourth inning on a double from senior Megan McCormack and a fielder's choice from redshirt senior Mikaela Tribby.
- Three more runs would score in the top of the fifth on a single from Nicoletti, a double from McCormack, and a two-run homer from King to make it 13-4.
- The Golden Falcons plated one run in the bottom of the fifth, but were unable to come within eight runs.
- Huhn and sophomore Akemi Poyer each led the Lions with three hits while King drove in three runs.
- As a team, Molloy stole five bases, including two from Huhn.
- Senior Tonianne Larson tossed all five innings, matching a career-high seven strikeouts.
