Sparkill, N.Y. – The men's basketball team fell to #10 St. Thomas Aquinas College, 92-63, this afternoon from Aquinas Hall. Molloy sits at 2-5 on the season and 2-4 in East Coast Conference play while STAC remains undefeated at 9-0 (8-0 ECC).
How it Happened
- In a back-and-forth opening series that resulted in six lead changes in the first five minutes of play, St. Thomas Aquinas led, 17-10, following back-to-back three-pointers from Grant Singleton with 14:19 left in the first half of play.
- Down 19-12, Molloy responded with an 8-4 run, including four points from sophomore James Montgomery, to come within three, 23-20, just under halfway through the first half.
- The home team would lead by as much as nine, 40-31, before a three-pointer from Montgomery in the final minute of play brought the Lions within six at the break.
- STAC opened the half with four three-pointers, helping to increase its lead to 17, 52-35.
- The maroon and white struggled against a hot shooting Spartans team, which shot over 47 percent from long distance for the half, and were unable to climb out of the early hole.
Top Performances
- Montgomery topped all scorers with 19 points and 13 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. The sophomore also added two steals and an assist.
- Senior Steven Torre pulled down five rebounds to go with 10 points and four assists.
- Freshman Darren Fergus led with a game-high five helpers to go with eight points.
