Rockville Centre, NY – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 45-37, Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions moved to 2-2 overall and in ECC play, while the Spartans improved to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.

How it Happened

• The Lions jumped out to a 5-2 advantage on a layup from graduate student Safiyyah Lee and a three-pointer from senior Gabriella Aspuru.
• The Spartans ended the first frame on a 9-0 run and led 11-5.
• Down 13-5, Molloy went on a 7-1 rally to cut the away team's lead to 14-12.
• STAC led 20-14 at the break.
• The maroon and white knotted the score at 25 on a basket from Lee with 3:56 left in the third stanza.
• Lee put the Lions ahead 29-27 with 1:45 left in the quarter, but the Spartans led 32-29 after 30 minutes of play.
• STAC outscored Molloy 13-8 in the fourth quarter en route to a 45-37 win.

Top Performances

• Lee recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Camden, N.J. native added three blocks.
• Aspuru tallied eight points, and junior Katie Marquardt scored six points.
• The Lions, who are second in the nation in scoring defense and field-goal percentage defense, held the Spartans to 12-52 shooting (23.1%) and forced 18 turnovers.
