Late Men's Basketball Run Falls Short Against St. Rose, 73-63

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell to the College of St. Rose, 73-63, this afternoon in a non-conference bout at Quealy Gymnasium. The loss sets Molloy at 2-3 on the season while St. Rose improved to 1-1 with the victory.

How it Happened
  • The Lions got off to a slow start, allowing the visitors to score nine of the first 10 games of the contest.
  • Molloy worked the score closer before taking a lead, 18-13, with 8:38 left in the half on the back of three-pointers from juniors Pierce Boczar and Pano Pavlidis and a jumper from freshman Mick Browne
  • The score was knotted four times in the final six minutes of action before Shane O'Dell sunk a layup to put the Golden Knights in front, 30-28, at the break.
  • A Pavlidis jumper brought the home team within one, 42-41, with 14:20 left in the contest, but St. Rose responded with a 13-2 run to lead, 55-43, with nine minutes on the clock.
  • Boczar sunk a three-pointer with 2:10 remaining, and was fouled on the shot to result in a four-point play. A jumper in the following possession from freshman Kenny Lazo brought Molloy within five points, 68-63, but that was as close as the Lions were able to come before time expired.
Top Performances
  • Lazo led the maroon and white, netting 11 points off the bench while adding a team-high five assists.
  • Senior Steven Torre, sophomore James Montgomery, and freshman Darren Fergus each tallied 10 points with Montgomery adding eight rebounds and two blocks and Fergus recording three steals.
