Rockville Centre, NY – The Molloy women's basketball team topped the Mercy Mavericks, 54-43, Sunday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 2-1 overall and in ECC play, while the Mavericks fell to 0-2 overall and in conference play.

How it Happened

• The maroon and white ran out to a 9-2 advantage, which was led by seven points from senior Gabriella Aspuru.
• The score was tied at 13 at the end of the first frame.
• Molloy opened the second stanza on a 10-0 rally, sparked by five points from junior Cameron Corbett, to put the home team ahead 23-13.
• The Lions led 27-24 at the half.
• Mercy tied the score, 36-36, with 2:27 left in the third frame. Aspuru netted four straight points, and the maroon and white led 40-36 after 30 minutes of play.
• Ahead 40-37, Molloy used an 8-0 run, led by six points from senior Morgan Staab, to extend its leads to 48-37 en route to a 54-43 victory.

Top Performances

• Aspuru netted a game-high 21 points.
• Graduate student Safiyyah Lee tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, and Staab added 10 points in the win.
