Rockville Centre, NY – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Mercy College Mavericks, 64-41, Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 1-1 overall and in ECC play, while the Mavericks moved 0-1 overall and in conference play.

How it Happened

• The maroon and white netted six of the first eight points of the contest to jump ahead 6-2.
• With the score 12-9, the Lions closed the frame on an 11-3 run, led by five points from freshman Trinity Hudson, and led 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.
• Ahead 23-18, Molloy went on a 10-0 rally, sparked by six points from senior Morgan Staab, and led 33-21 at the half.
• Leading 35-25, the maroon and white used a 19-2 run, led by eight points apiece from senior Gabriella Aspuru and Staab, to go ahead 54-27. The Lions had a 54-29 advantage after 30 minutes of play.
• Freshman Danielle Hippner and Hudson led the maroon and white with four points each in the final stanza en route to a 64-41 victory.

Top Performances

• Staab tallied a game-high 19 points, on 7-of-8 shooting.
• Aspuru netted 14 points, Hudson scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and graduate student Safiyyah Lee added 10 points.
• Hippner recorded four points, six blocks, and eight rebounds in the win.
