Women's Basketball Falls to Jefferson, 66-53

Flushing, N.Y. - The women's basketball team concluded the opening weekend of the 2021-22 campaign with a 66-53 loss to Jefferson in the East Region Challenge. Molloy fell to 1-1 on the season while the Rams improved to 2-0.

How it Happened
  • After netting the first points of the game, a three-pointer from sophomore Trinity Hudson, Molloy trailed the remainder of the first quarter, with Jefferson holding a 23-13 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
  • The Rams would extend the lead to as much as 27, 43-16, before a layup from freshman Danielle Hippner and a jumper from senior Gabriella Aspuru brought the score to 43-20 at the half.
  • Aspuru added five points in the third frame, but the Lions trailed, 60-28, headed into the final quarter.
  • A 9-0 run, led by five points from Hudson, cut the score to 64-40, with four minutes left to play.
  • The maroon and white ended the game on a 13-0 run to bring the contest within 13, 66-53, as time expired.
Top Performances
  • Aspuru led with 19 points, four blocks, and three steals while adding five rebounds.
  • Hudson also finished in double digits with 14 points, including going 6-of-8 at the line, and added seven boards.
  • Junior Morgan Staab led under the glass with eight boards while adding two blocks.
  • Junior Cameron Corbett dished out a team-leading three assists to go with seven points and three rebounds.
  • Graduate student Maya Thomas recorded six points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Molloy heads down the road on Wednesday (Nov. 17) for a showdown with Division I neighbor Hofstra University. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
