Queens, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team defeated the Chestnut Hill Griffins, 66-51, Saturday afternoon in its season-opener at Fitzgerald Gym.

How it Happened

• Down 6-2, the Lions closed the first frame on a 16-2 run, led by five points from sophomore Trinity Hudson and graduate student Maya Thomas, and led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.
• Ahead 18-13, the maroon and white used an 11-3 rally, led by four points from Hudson, to increase its lead to 29-16.
• Molloy led 33-20 at the half.
• Chestnut Hill outscored the Lions 20-16 in the third stanza, and Molloy led 49-40 after 30 minutes of play.
• The maroon and white netted the first seven points of the fourth quarter to extend its advantage to 56-40.
• Graduate student Safiyyah Lee made a basket to make it 60-42 with 5:09 left.

Top Performances

• Senior Gabriella Aspuru netted a game-high 17 points.
• Thomas tallied 15 points, and Hudson added 13 points.
