Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The 24th-ranked Molloy women's soccer team got back to their winning ways as they defeated the Jefferson Rams, 1-0, Wednesday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 8-2 overall, while the Rams fell to 4-3-1.
How It Happened
- The first half was a defensive battle, as both teams combined for five shots.
- The lone highlight of the opening 45 minutes was senior Dana Poetzsch getting beyond Jefferson goalkeeper Liv Riddel after coming off her line in the 38th minute, but a Rams' defender prevented her from getting a shot away.
- The match was scoreless heading into the break.
- Junior Lexi Verni and sophomore Sarah Tappeto were each denied by the keeper in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
- The Lions broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, as the ball came out to junior Annie Coogan, who smashed in a one-timer from 25 yards out.
- In the 63rd minute, Verni's effort was stopped by Riddel.
