Fiordiliso Nets Goal in Field Hockey Loss at Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The field hockey team fell to Mercy College, 6-1, this afternoon at Mercy Field. The loss drops the Lions to 0-11 (0-9 NE-10), while the Mavericks improve to 4-9 (3-7 NE-10).
 
How it Happened
  • Both teams went up and down the field in the first couple of minutes of the contest looking to gain momentum.
  • With 11:40 to go in the first quarter, the Mavericks scored off a two-pass penalty corner to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Eight minutes later, the Lions added the equalizer, as freshman Alexa Denis found junior Hailey Fiordiliso on the right side who buried the ball past the goalkeeper for her first career goal.
  • Less than a minute later, the home team scored, regaining the lead at the end of the opening stanza.
  • Mercy scored two goals in a three-minute span to extend the lead to 4-1 at halftime.
  • Four minutes into the third quarter, Mercy added their fifth goal of the game.
  • The Mavericks concluded the game scoring with under four minutes to go.

Top Performances
  • Denis collected her first collegiate point, assisting on the maroon and white's goal.
  • Sophomore Ally Saigh began the game in net, making five saves.
  • Freshman Kelsey Price relieved Saigh in the second half, stopping two shots.
  • Molloy had a season-high six shots and six penalty corners on the afternoon.

  • The Lions return home Saturday (Oct. 23) as #6 Saint Anselm pays a visit to Cedar Creek Park. The game set to begin at 12:00 p.m. after Molloy recognizes its six senior members in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
