#24 Women’s Soccer Falls To Daemen, 3-1

Amherst, N.Y. - The 24th-ranked Molloy women's soccer team suffered its first setback in East Coast Conference play as it fell to the Daemen Wildcats, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Karrer Field. The Lions fell to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in ECC play, while the Wildcats improved to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.
 
How It Happened
  • The Lions put all four of their shots on target.
  • Junior Sienna Nicolich nearly gave Molloy the lead after just 47 seconds, but her effort from inside the box was denied by Daemen goalkeeper Tori DeLappi.
  • Senior goalkeeper Jackie Carty made saves in the 11th and 13th minutes to keep the match goalless.
  • The Lions broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, as junior Annie Coogan unleashed a long-range strike past the keeper to make it 1-0.
  • 34 seconds later, the Wildcats leveled things up with a goal from Alyssa Diaz.
  • Daemen took the lead in the 37th minute thanks to Katja Meyer.
  • The Wildcats were up 2-1  at halftime.
  • Demi McCalliog scored Daemen's third goal 10 minutes into the second half.
  • Junior Lexi Verni and sophomore Sarah Teppetto each had a shot from outside the box, but both were stopped by DeLappi.
 
Top Performances
  • Coogan scored her first goal of the season, and the second of her Molloy career.
  • Verni registered her second assist of the season.
  • Carty made three saves on the day.

  • The maroon and white head back to Long Island to host Jefferson Wednesday, October 6 at John A. Darcy Field. The matchup with the Rams is set for 7:00 p.m.
