Poetzsch's Milestone Goal Helps #21 Women's Soccer Defeat Pace, 3-1

Pleasantville, N.Y. - Senior Dana Poetzsch scored her 50th career goal as the 21st-ranked Molloy women's soccer team topped the Pace Setters, 3-1, Wednesday evening at Pace Stadium. The Lions improved to 10-2 overall, while the Setters moved to 4-5-3.

How it Happened

● Poetzsch had the first chance of the game in the third minute, but her effort was denied by Pace goalkeeper Perri Anderson.

● Moments after the Setters hit the post, Poetzsch was again stopped by Anderson in the 17th minute.

● Poetzsch eventually found the back of the net in the 35th minute as junior Annie Coogan fed a through ball into the box for Poetzsch to get by the goalkeeper and roll it in.

● Senior Jackie Carty made three saves in the final eight minutes of the first half to keep Molloy up 1-0 heading into the break.

● Three minutes into the second half, the Setters hit the post again, then they were denied by Carty before firing in the rebound to level things up.

● Poetzsch nearly provided an instant response one minute later, but she put her effort wide.

● In the 50th minute, the Lions retook the lead through sophomore Brenna Glover, as she latched onto a ball over the top and fired it past the keeper.

● In the 73rd minute, sophomore Sarah Tappeto made it 3-1 with a dazzling free kick from the left side, going over the keeper and clipping the crossbar on its way in.

Top Performances

● Poetzsch scored her second goal of the season and her 50th of her career, becoming only the second player in program history to reach that landmark.

● Glover tallied her first career goal for Molloy.

● Tappeto netted her third goal of the season.

● Coogan registered her third assist of the season and extended her points streak to four games.

● Poetzsch led the team in shots with five.
