Women's Basketball Slips to New York Tech, 55-48

Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the New York Tech Bears, 55-48, Saturday afternoon at Recreation Hall. The Lions moved to 14-7 overall and 6-3 in ECC play, while the Bears improved to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in league play.

How it Happened
  • The Bears started the contest on a 10-2 rally.
  • With the score 12-4, senior Kathryn Gibson hit a three-pointer and junior Marthe Guirand made a layup to cut New York Tech's advantage to 12-9.
  • The home team led 17-11 after the first frame.
  • Up 21-17, New York Tech went on an 8-0 run to increase its lead to 29-17.
  • Sophomore Katie Marquardt made a jumper in the final seconds of the half, and Molloy trailed 29-19 at the break.
  • The Lions opened the second half on an 11-4 run, led by six points from junior Gabriella Aspuru, to cut the home team's lead to 33-30.
  • The Bears netted the final six points of the quarter and led 39-30 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
  • The maroon and white began the fourth stanza on an 11-4 rally, sparked by six points from graduate student Robyn Francis, to cut New York Tech's advantage to 43-41 with 4:30 remaining.
  • Down 48-43, Gibson hit a triple to make it 48-46 with 2:04 left, but that was as close as the Lions would get.
Top Performances
  • Aspuru netted a team-high 13 points and has scored in double figures in three straight games.
  • Graduate student Kadijah Dickson, who has scored in double digits in 19 of 20 contests this season, tallied 10 points and seven rebounds, and Gibson added nine points.
