Men's Soccer Slips to New York Tech in Overtime, 3-2

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team fell to the New York Tech Bears, 3-2, in overtime Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1 in ECC play, while the Bears improved to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in league play.

How it Happened
  • The Bears generated the first four shots of the game.
  • Junior Kenneth Garcia had a one-on-one chance with the goalie, but sent his chance wide in the 16th minute.
  • New York Tech went ahead 1-0 in the 19th minute on a goal from Xavi Senlik.
  • Molloy evened the score, 1-1, three minutes later. Senior Anthony Cestaro headed a free kick from senior Carlos Bonilla into the back of the net.
  • The match was knotted at one at the end of the first frame.
  • Senior Luis Mata completed a passing sequence with Cestaro and Bonilla to put the Lions ahead 2-1 in the 81st minute.
  • The visitors tied the contest, 2-2, in the 83rd minute on a tally from Simon-Peter Omooba.
  • Garcia created a chance in the extra session, but his try was stopped.
  • Che Richards netted the game-winner for New York Tech 1:33 into overtime.

  • Cestaro tallied three points (one goal and one assist). The senior leads the team with 10 points (four goals and two assists).
  • Bonilla recorded two assists. The senior leads the team with three helpers.
  • Mata netted his first career goal.
  • Freshman Sergio Peralta made six saves.
