Seaford, N.Y. - The field hockey team returned to action this afternoon against the Mavericks of Mercy College. The contest was tied into the final 20 seconds of action, but the maroon and white ultimately fell, 2-1. Molloy now sits at 1-5 on the season and 1-3 in NE10 play while the win lifts the Mavericks to 2-4 (2-3 NE10).
How it Happened
- Neither team was able to record a shot until 14:30 into the game, where Mercy fired a shot of a penalty corner but was saved by freshman Ally Saigh.
- The Mavericks rushed the net after the save, and Brooke Anthony was able to push the ball past Saigh to give Mercy a 1-0 lead after the first quarter of action.
- After getting four penalty corners to open the second frame, sophomore Kyra Dalli scored off a save, assisted by sophomore Carly Malico.
- The Lions controlled the offensive effort in the second half, outshooting Mercy 5-1.
- With an overtime period seeming likely, the Mavericks fired a shot which Saigh was able to stop, but was unable to control the rebound, which Savanna James pushed by her into the net to seal the victory in favor of the visitors.
Top Performances
- Dalli, the Lions' lone goal scorer, led the team with four shots.
- Sophomore Erin Tudryn and junior Nadia Elcock each recorded two.
- Saigh made four saves in net.
