Women's Soccer Opens ECC Play with Win Over Lincoln

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Lincoln Lions, 12-0, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0 in ECC play. Lincoln fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Junior Lauren Marinello scored on a cross from junior Dana Poetzsch to give Molloy a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.
  • Poetzsch netted the next two goals on breakaways on feeds from freshman Sarah Tappeto and graduate student Kelsie Moinzadeh in the 14th and 16th minutes, respectively.
  • Moinzadeh made it 4-0 on a fast break goal on pass from Daria Castrogivanni in the 17th minute.
  • Sophomore Meaghan O'Callaghan finished a passing sequence with Poetzsch to give the maroon and white a 5-0 advantage.
  • Poetzsch and O'Callaghan netted goals in the opening minute of the second stanza to make it a 7-0 contest.
  • O'Callaghan tallied her third goal of the match in the 63rd minute to extend the Lions' lead to 8-0.
  • Sophomore Annie Coogan, Moinzadeh, senior Mikayla Canales, and freshman Victoria Monaco added goals in the second frame.
Top Performances
  • Poetzsch tallied a career-high eight points (three goals and two assists). The Hicksville, N.Y. native leads the team in goals (8) assists (3), and points (19).
  • O'Callaghan recorded her first career hat trick.
  • Moinzadeh tallied a career-high five points (two goals and one assist).
  • Monaco and Coogan logged their first collegiate goals.
  • Senior Angela Careddu picked up two assists.
  • Marinello scored her second goal of the season, and Canales tallied her first goal of the year.
  • Castrogivanni, Tappeto, and sophomore Emily Goetz all registered an assist.
  • The maroon and white tied the program record with assists in a game (8), which was set against Caldwell Oct. 16, 2006.
  • The Lions' 49 shots set a single-game record.

  • "It was nice to keep our good start going," head coach Steve Price said. "Everybody contributed to today's win."
