Tudryn Goals Give Field Hockey 2-0 Victory to Open NE10 Play

Seaford, N.Y. - Sophomore Erin Tudryn netted goals in the first and fourth quarter to give the field hockey team a 2-0 win over Saint Michael's College this afternoon at Cedar Creek Park. The Lions open NE10 play 1-0, improving to 1-2 on the season while the Purple Knights fall to 0-4 (0-1 NE10) with the loss.

How it Happened
  • The Lions earned five corners in the first 15 minutes of action. Tudryn's first goal of the season came off a feed from junior Nadia Elcock, beating St. Michael's goalkeeper left side.
  • The Purple Knights fired five shots in the second frame, but were all turned away to keep the visitors off the board.
  • After a scoreless third quarter, Tudryn doubled the maroon and white's lead in the 48th minute, lifting the ball over the goalie's arm and into the back of the net.

Top Performances
  • Tudryn had her first multi-goal game as a Lion.
  • Elcock picked up her first point of the season with the assist.
  • As a team, Molloy maintained a 15-12 shot advantage as well as a 15-3 advantage on penalty corners.
  • Freshmen Ally Saigh and Ava Quick shared the shutout, each playing 30 minutes of action and making four saves.

Coach's Comments
"The girls were extremely fired up for today's first-ever conference game for the program and wanted to make a statement in the NE10," said Head Coach Trish Bonagura. "There was a lot of trust on the field today that led to connections between the defense and midfield and the midfield and the offense, resulting in scoring opportunities and corners. Everyone did their job today and worked hard for the full 60 minutes, which was one of our goals coming into the game."
