Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Department of Athletics has announced the 2020 class that will be inducted into the Molloy Athletic Hall of Fame. The class includes five accomplished graduates from five different sports. The Molloy Athletic Hall of Fame, established in 1992, will now feature 47 individuals and one team.
The annual induction ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Floral Terrace. More information, including how to purchase tickets, will be added when it becomes available.
Keith Galante, men's lacrosse (2006-2009)
Keith Galante graduated from Molloy as the program's all-time leader in both points (190) and assists (106), as well as topping the maroon and white in both shots (331) and shots on goal (171). The midfielder also ranked in the top-five in goals (85), shots on goal per game (3.29), man-up goals (15), assists per game (2.02), and points per game (3.65). Upon graduation, Galante was selected 34
th overall in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Long Island Lizards, making him the first player in the program's history to be drafted to the MLL.
Galante's name still sits atop the program's record book in assists, remaining the only player to top 100 career assists. He currently sits third in points, fourth in shots, fifth in assists per game, and ninth in goals, points per game, and shots on goal. His name also appears as the single-game assist record holder (7), and holds the single-game shot record (17).
In his time with the Lions, Galante was named All-Conference two times, both first team selections. He became the second in program-history to earn First Team All-American recognition by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. In addition, he was the program's second-ever NCAA Statistical Champion, averaging 3.31 assists per game in 2009.
Kelley Jansen, softball (2010-13)
Kelley Jansen was a mainstay in the circle during a time that Molloy softball dominated the East Region. A four-time All-ECC selection (two First Team), Jansen helped lead the Lions to three ECC Championships, two NCAA East Regional Championships, and became the only pitcher in the program's history to record a win in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament. Through four years, Jansen racked up on ECC Pitcher of the Year award, five All-Region selections, and one All-America Honorable Mention recognition.
In 2012, Jansen recorded 32 strikeouts through three games of the ECC Tournament, boasting an incredible 0.37 earned run average to secure Molloy's second-straight ECC Championship. Through the season, she fanned 325 batters, a record that remains intact today.
Her name remains atop the record books in strikeouts (1048), complete games (80), and appearances (147) and she is the only individual to ever top 1,000 strikeouts in the history of the softball program. She also ranks within the top-five in innings pitched (730.2), wins (85), ERA (1.95), shutouts (26), and games started (116).
Robert LaRusso, baseball (2008-2011)
Robert LaRusso remains the program's all-time leader in both doubles (59) and runs batted in (163). In 2011, he became the second player in the program to earn the East Coast Conference Player of the Year title, driving in 48 runs on 49 hits, 13 doubles, two triples and nine home runs while averaging .282 at the plate.
LaRusso was named All-ECC on three occasions, including two First Team selections. In addition, he earned All-Region selection by all three major organizations, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the American Baseball Coaches Association, and Daktronics.
During his time at Molloy, the baseball team appeared in four straight ECC Tournaments, including advancing all the way to the Championship Game in 2010, falling to then-C.W. Post in 11 innings, and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Championship with a 9-3 victory over Post University in 2008.
The catcher's numbers offensively remain impressive today, graduating with a .314 batting average, driving in 163 runs on 215 hits, 59 doubles, six triples, and 24 home runs while adding 116 runs scored, a .520 slugging percentage, a .418 on-base percentage, 107 walks, and 29 stolen bases. In addition to topping the all-time records in doubles and RBI, he ranks second in home runs, third in total bases (358), and fourth in walks.
LaRusso's name also appears in the record book in all-time hits (7
th), triples (8
th), and slugging percentage (7
th), and putouts (2
nd). He remains the single-season leader in walks (42) and is second in putouts (437).
John Petrucelli, men's basketball (2010-14)
John Petrucelli is arguably the most lauded player in the history of Molloy's basketball program. To date, he remains the program's all-time scoring leader by a distant margin and is the only player in the program's history to top 2000 points.
Petrucelli earned three All-ECC First Team selections, including being named the league's Rookie of the Year as a freshman and Player of the Year as a senior. He was also recognized by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association as a First Team All-Region selection and is the only player to receive the Player of the Year award from the MBWA in the program's history. Petrucelli added two additional All-Region selections by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Daktronics. He was also awarded the NCAA Statistical Champion in steals per game as a senior.
He tops Molloy's record books in points, made field goals (681), made free throws (582) and steals (353), while ranking in the top-five in points per game (18.0), steals per game (3.2), rebounds (804), rebounds per game (7.2), and assists (346). Petrucelli is also the single-season leader in points (692), points per game (23.1), made field goals (243), and made free throws (181).
Upon graduation, Petrucelli played in Slovakia before becoming the program's first player to be signed to the G-League, the developmental league of the NBA and is still competing professionally today. He most recently signed to compete in the Israeli Premier League.
Kristie Sosnowski, women's lacrosse (2008-2011)
Kristie Sosnowski is the only member of the women's lacrosse program to ever be named an NCAA Statistical Champion, earning the award for draw controls per game in back-to-back seasons.
Through just three seasons with the Lions, Sosnowski amassed 364 draw controls, a number that remains at the top of the record book to this date. She also leads the program in ground balls, totaling 145 on her career, and draw controls per game, averaging 7.58.
In addition, the midfielder ranks second in shots per game (6.17), ground balls per game (3.02), and caused turnovers per game (1.31), fourth in caused turnovers (63), fifth in shots on goal per game (4.17), sixth in goals (117) and goals per game (2.44), fifth in shots (296), and seventh in points (153), points per game (3.19), and shots on goal (200).
Sosnowski also holds the single-season record in ground balls (56), draw controls (147) and draw controls per game (9.29), and ranks in the top-five in single-season points (70), points per game (4.12), shots (144), shots per game (6.71), ground balls per game (3.29),and caused turnovers (26).
In addition, she remains the program's single-game draw control leader, totaling 21 against Saint Anselm in 2009.
In her time as a Lion, Sosnowski was selected as All-Conference First Team on two occasions as well as receiving three All-Region selections by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and was an All-American recipient by WomensLacrosse.com and appeared in the 2010 IWLCA All-Star Game.
